Lymphatic Drainage

stomach massageLymphatic drainage is a delicate form of massage that stimulates the body’s lymphatic system, improving the metabolism, helping the body to eliminate waste and toxins and providing a boost to the immune system. By stimulating this system through massage it works more efficiently. This in-turn boosts the immune system, clears blockages, eliminates toxins, transports nutrients to cells and increases the metabolism.

What Can It Treat?

Lymphatic drainage massage is especially useful for individuals who seem to suffer regularly from common illnesses like colds and flu. It is also recommended for people who lead sedentary lifestyles, or those who want to reduce puffiness or swelling. It has been cited as having a positive effect on problem skin, cellulite, dysfunctional respiratory systems and people with low energy. It boosts the immune system, helps the body ward off illness and can facilitate general feelings of health and vitality. It also has a positive physical effect, improving the appearance of the skin and reducing puffiness caused by water retention, poor circulation or pregnancy. As with other massage, it can help with pain from fractures and sprains and rheumatism.

What to expect before your massage

Once you arrive for your massage session, I will begin by conducting a short consultation, detailing your personal health so that I will know if there are any contraindications, or reasons that massage may not be advisable. After acquainting you with the massage room, I will leave to allow you privacy to undress and lay between the towels on the massage couch.

During the massage you will be modestly draped at all times. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. A full body massage consists of massage to the hands, arms, feet, legs, stomach, upper chest, shoulders, neck, and back.

What to expect after your massage

After the massage is complete, I will leave the room to allow you privacy to redress. Dangle your feet off the side of the massage couch for a minute or two before attempting to stand, as massage promotes the release of toxins from body tissues. Upon return, I will bring you a glass of water, as it is very important to drink lots of water after the massage to help flush toxins out of your system. We can then discuss how you are feeling after your treatment followed by some aftercare advice.
